- Dry vegetation authorized by the permit
- Other material specifically approved for open burning

Does a burn permit mean I can burn any day?
No. You must also confirm that burning has not been suspended and that current burn-day conditions allow outdoor burning.
Can I burn household trash?
No. Household trash, plastics, tires, treated wood and other prohibited waste materials may not be disposed of by open burning.
Do I need a permit for a normal barbecue?
Ordinary barbecue use is generally treated differently from open vegetation burning when approved fuels such as propane, natural gas, or clean dry wood are used. Follow applicable fire restrictions and never burn trash.
What if the wind picks up while I am burning?
If conditions become unsafe, extinguish the fire. A permit does not authorize burning under unsafe conditions.
Can NSFD suspend burning after I receive a permit?
Yes. Burning may be restricted or suspended when fire weather, air quality or other conditions create an unacceptable risk.
Do I need to check both County Fire and MDAQMD?
Yes. Fire restrictions and air-quality burn-day requirements are separate considerations. Residents should verify both before conducting an outdoor burn.
