Newberry Springs Fire Department is always looking for motivated individuals who are interested in serving their community, gaining real-world experience, and becoming part of the fire service.

Whether your goal is to begin a career as a firefighter or simply serve the Newberry Springs community, our department provides an opportunity to train, respond to emergencies, develop your skills, and gain valuable hands-on experience.

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid driver's license

Gain Real-World Emergency Experience

Training is important, but there is no replacement for experiencing the fire service in the real world.

As a member of Newberry Springs Fire Department, you will have the opportunity to respond alongside our crews and gain experience with the types of emergencies firefighters regularly encounter in a rural community.

Depending on the incident, members may respond to:

  • Medical emergencies and EMS calls
  • Residential / Commercial fires
  • Wildland and vegetation fires
  • Vehicle fires
  • Traffic accidents
  • Rescue incidents
  • Hazardous-materials incidents
  • Mutual-aid incidents with neighboring fire departments
  • Other fire, rescue, and emergency incidents throughout our response area

Don't Have Your Firefighter I Yet?

That's okay.

You do not have to already possess your California State Fire Training Fire Fighter 1 certification to begin your journey with Newberry Springs Fire Department.

If you are willing to put in the work, we will help pave the way for you to work toward obtaining your Fire Fighter 1 certification.

New members receive department training, hands-on instruction from state qualified fire instructors, and opportunities to develop the skills and experience necessary to continue progressing in the fire service. Our goal is to give motivated members the training, hands-on experience, and foundation needed to prepare for the Fire Fighter 1 certification process and take the next step toward a career in the fire service, if that is the path they choose.

No Previous Fire Service Experience Required

Previous firefighting experience is desired, but  is not required to apply.

We are looking for people who are dependable, motivated, willing to learn, able to work as part of a team, and committed to serving their community.

What we expect from you is the willingness to show up, learn, train, work hard, and be part of the team.
